Biography

Alisa Semones is a contemporary realism painter who was born in San Diego, California and raised primarily in Florida. Her passion is the landscape; firmly holding her interest and fascination her entire life. Finding the interplay of light and color mesmerizing, she strives to convey those qualities in her art. That pursuit has guided her work over the years in alternative process photography and painting in several mediums. Moving from simply looking at nature, to truly seeing it, is her ongoing pursuit. She finds this practice life-giving, supplying a sense of connection to the Creator and to others.

After several recent losses, she found painting became a place of flow, creating a space of stillness to process her inner world. It was then that she turned to the practice of plein air painting, discovering that painting outdoors with no defined boundaries on the subject, in rapidly changing light, was both challenging and exhilarating. In recent years, she began working in soft pastels, finding their luminosity and tactile qualities captivating. She has since become a prolific pastel artist as well as an oil painter. As a long-time resident of the coast of Florida, she finds continual inspiration in the dramatic Florida skies and landscape.

Alisa is a member of the Pastel Society of America, an Associate Artist for Unison Colours of England and a member of the First Coast Plein Air Painters. She regularly participates in exhibitions and her work is held in private collections in the United States and in Europe.

Artist Statement

As an artist, I see the hand of the Creator all around me, not just in epic views or scenery, but also the frequently overlooked, every-day beauty. God is the greatest artist, and it’s nature that constantly informs and fuels my passion to make art. When I take the time to truly “see” I feel a deep sense of connection and refreshing in my spirit. These are sacred moments to me being the source of my desire to paint, and how I seek connection with others through art. I’ve always been fascinated by the dance between light and color, capturing that essence in my art is my never-ending obsession.

My hope and highest desire is that my art would connect with, and speak to the heart of the viewer.
